Kapampangans honor Macapagal today
LUBAO — Kapampangans, schools and government officials will honor the birth centenary of former President Diosdado Macapagal in grand ceremonies Tuesday.
The Pampanga Provincial Government will start with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Capitol Grounds in front of the monument of the former president at 7 a.m.
Governor Lilia Pineda will lead the ceremony along with the members of the Provincial Board, Pampanga Representatives Carmelo Lazatin, Aurelio Gonzales Jr., Anna York Bondoc-Sagum and officials of the National Historical Commission of the Philippines and the Department of Education (DepEd).
There will also be a motorcade to Lubao town, the birth place of the late President, where a ceremony will also be held. Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is the expected guest of honor.
Arroyo will be joined by Lubao Mayor Mylyn Pineda, DepEd Regional Director Teofila Villanueva, Auxiliary Bishop Roberto Mallari, Angeles University Foundation president Joseph Emmanuel Angeles, and Holy Angel University officials.
A program highlighting the commemorative stamp in honor of the late president will follow. National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) Chairman Ambeth Ocampo will do the presentation.
A solemn mass will also be celebrated at the nearby San Agustin Parish Church with San Fernando Archbishop Paciano Aniceto.
President Benigno Aquino III earlier recognized Macapagalโs valuable contribution to the country in issuing Executive Order 35 declaring Tuesday as a special non-working holiday in the province of Pampanga.
Despite of the holiday, the Pampanga Provincial Board is urging government agencies and schools in the province to hold their respective observance of Macapagalโs centenary.
