Pinoys urged to observe UK migrants rules
THE British Embassy in Manila called on Filipinos who would visit the United Kingdom (UK) to strictly follow the laws when entering the territory to avoid deportation.
Some 13 Filipinos were arrested this month in a series of enforcement operations carried out by the UK Border Agency.
βWe urge all Filipinos to comply with the conditions of their entry when visiting the UK. While UK welcomes genuine visitors, we are also committed to tackling immigration abuse robustly,β said Ed Mackie, Philippine manager of UK Border Agency.
The embassy said the immigration violations of the 13 apprehended suspects include illegal employment, sham marriages, bogus colleges and organized immigration crime.
Last week, seven Filipinos were arrested by UK authorities on a number of addresses in Willesden, Northwest London.
βSteps are being taken to remove all 13 from the UK,β said the British Embassy in a statement.
Figures from the Department of Foreign Affairs showed there are about 203,035 Filipinos living and working in the UK. (AMN/Sunnex)
