Mayor Oca Off-Road Cup hits track Sept. 18

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO—The 2nd Mayor Oscar Rodriguez 4×4 Invitational Cup will hit the tracks on Saturday, September 18, a day before his birthday, at Robinsons Starmills Pampanga.

According to Pampanga Off-Roaders Club, Inc. (Porci) chairman Marni Castro, a different type of track will be constructed at the back of Robinsons, the area where the Giant Lantern Festival is held.

“A new type of track will be constructed for the race. The equipment will be provided by the city government and all other expenses by sponsors,” he told Sun.Star Pampanga during their mapping-out meeting at Herbs and Greens Restaurant recently.

He said that the First Mayor Oca Cup was held at the Carworld, Inc. area last year and was participated in by hundreds of 4×4 enthusiasts, with Porci’s 40 members blazing the trail.

Porci president John Sambo, for his part, said that for the second run of the invitational cup, there will be no categories as usual, as it would be open and team and individual races will highlight the tracks.

He said that prizes would be P15,000, P10,000 and P5,000 for the top three off-roaders respectively, while P1,500 each will be awarded to the top five contenders, and P1,000 each to the next five off-roaders.

Meanwhile, Porci past president Rene Romero said that the off-road invitational is more than just a challenge.

“Behind every challenge is of course Porci’s advocacy like tourism. But off-road challenges like this makes one a better and more disciplined drivers, in or out of the race track,” he quipped. (Jovi T. De Leon)
