City slaughterhouse gets ‘makeover’

ANGELES CITY — Angeleños can now start forgetting the image of the city slaughterhouse as a place of stench and filth, after it got a thorough ‘makeover.’

At zero cost to the City Government, Dealco Farms Inc. converted the dilapidated and unsanitary abattoir into a hygienic, professionally managed meat plant. The country’s biggest food retailers and processors now confidently get their meat from the renovated abattoir.

The slaughterhouse is currently under lease to the Dealco Farms Inc.

Dealco’s efforts in improving the slaughterhouse were not limited to cleaning up and updating the facilities, but totally renovating the wastewater treatment plant to ensure that the facility will not pollute the Sapang Balen Creek.

“We are very conscious of corporate stewardship,” says Dealco executive vice-president Joyce Alcoreza.

“We completely acknowledge our responsibility towards the protection of our natural environment and see this as an integral part of our corporate ethics. Similarly, we want our business partners-mostly meat dealers and wet market vendors to succeed, not through short cuts but through doing what is truly good,” added Alcoreza.

Dealco is a member of the Philippine Association of Meat Processors Inc. The company upholds the association’s mandate to provide dependable supply of safe and wholesome meat products at affordable prices to all Filipinos.

Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan will unveil on Wednesday the newly rehabilitated city slaughterhouse in Barangay Pampang, and a mass to be officiated by Auxiliary Bishop Pablo Virgilo David, who is also the prime mover of the Save Sapang Balen Creek campaign, will follow. (Jovi T. De Leon)
