Cops in serial killer arrest commended

ANGELES CITY — Three police officers of the Angeles City Police Office (Acpo) who facilitated the arrest of suspected serial killer Mark Dizon were commended Monday.

The policemen were commended by City Police Director Danilo Bautista and Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan during Monday’s awarding ceremonies attended by expatriates, city officials and the local police force.

Pamintuan, in an interview said that the efforts of Police Officer 3 Rolando Pamintuan, Police Officer 1 Marvin Stanley Castro and Police Officer 1 Reynaldo are a proud testament of the dedication of the local police in solving crimes in the city.

“Our tourists and expats who have found a haven in Angeles City can rest assured that we are not sleeping on the job. We are encouraging the local police to continue this stellar performance and resolve other unsolved crimes,” Pamintuan said, stressing that the people’s confidence on the local police is as important as thwarting criminality in the city.

The three officers arrested Dizon in La Union province. Dizon was initially charged with five counts of murder with theft relative to the killing of Albert Mitchell, an American national, and four others at Hensonville Subdivision.

The suspect is also being held responsible for the killing of Canadian Geoffrey Bennun and his live-in partner at the Oasis compound; and Briton James Bolton at his residence in Santa Maria Subdivision in Barangay Balibago here recently.

Based on ballistic examinations conducted by the Scene of the Crime Operations (Soco), a 9mm pistol was used in the three separate incidents.

“We are instructing the local police to not sit on their laurels and follow-up on the other crimes that need solving,” Pamintuan said.

Happy and grateful

Serena Mitchell, the daughter of murder victim Albert Mitchell, expressed her gratitude to the media, the City Government and the local police for their sincere support in the arrest of the alleged murder suspect.

She said that the media played a big role in spreading the pictures and in continuously covering the progress of the investigation.

“We are happy with what had transpired and we are grateful to all of you in media and the City Government of Angeles City led by Mayor Pamintuan and the city police,” Mitchell said, refusing to comment further on Dizon and the current progress of the case.

Mayor Pamintuan, for his part, also thanked the media and Reynaldo Malig, leader of Tropang Crime Watch, for their support in the resolution of the case. Malig was instrumental in persuading the suspect’s father to reveal his sons whereabouts.

“We have given Mr. Malig’s group some P100, 000 as incentive for their support,” Pamintuan said, stressing that Malig’s group can use the money in strengthening their anti-criminality capabilities by buying radios and other communication equipment.

Bautista, for his part, said that he has instructed his police officers to check on the progress of other investigations of unsolved crimes in the city. (Ian Ocampo Flora)
