Mayor denies human trafficking in Angeles

ANGELES CITY — Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan denied reports that human trafficking is prevalent in the city particularly at the entertainment districts of Barangay Balibago and Malabanias where hundreds of night clubs are situated.

The mayor made the statement during a ceremony at the Angeles City Police headquarters Monday where police officers who worked in arresting Mark Dizon, the alleged serial killer responsible for killing at least three foreigners and several local residents, were feted.

Pamintuan said he was asked by Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jess Robredo to close some 1,000 bars along Fields Avenue in Barangay Balibago.

But Pamintuan said that Angeles City only has 250 night clubs established in the said area and he has already informed Robredo about this.

Robredo reportedly directed Pamintuan to solve the problem of human trafficking in the city before President Benigno Aquino III meet with US President Obama on September.

“But I told Secretary Robredo that we have no problem on human trafficking in our beloved city,” Pamintuan said.

The local chief executive also said that President Aquino himself has already visited Angeles City particularly International Hotel four times.

“We have the best hotels and food in the city where tourists will enjoy their stay,” the mayor said.

Pamintuan also said that some US embassy officials are visiting the entertainment district and they are delighted by its peacefulness and orderliness.

“Nag-eenjoy and mga tourists at foreigners dito sa lugar natin at gustong gusto nilang bumalik para mag good time,” Pamintuan said. (Reynaldo G. Navales)
