MacroAsia allots $100-M fund for Pampanga airport
Listed MacroAsia Corp., which provides aviation support services in the Philippines, and partner Lufthansa Technik Philippines (LTP) are spending as much as $100 million for a long-term phased-development for aviation services inside the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport in Clark, Pampanga.
Joseph Chua, MacroasAsia president and chief executive officer, told reporters that the partnership has leased 30 hectares of land inside the DMIA which will be developed between five and 10 years.
“This is a long-term project. We will be spending anywhere between $50 million and $100 million for this,” he said.
On Tuesday, a memorandum of understanding was signed between MacroAsia, a member of the Lucio Tan group, and the Clark International Airport Corp. for the project.
The MOU lays down the initial framework for the establishment of an Integrated Aviation Service Area inside Clark.
The area, which could be expanded to 50 hectares, is eyed to serve the requirements of the aviation-related companies of the Tan group and other airlines that are current clients of the group, if they eventually operate in Clark.
When completed, the area will include an in-flight catering facility, a ground-handling unit, aircraft maintenance and repair facility, cargo warehouse, technical training, and airline operations offices to serve the requirements of both local and foreign airlines.
The development will be phased-in starting with the development of at least 30 hectares for ground handling, airline catering, and aircraft maintenance and repair services.
LTP is a joint venture between Lufthansa Technik AG of Germany and MacroAsia.
