Forum on environmental education law set in Clark

Clark Freeport โ€” The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) is convening a forum workshop on the implementation of Republic Act No. 9512, the Environmental Awareness and Education Act of 2008, at the Hotel Stotsenberg in Clark, Pampanga, on July 30-31, 2009.

DENR Secretary Lito Atienza said the forum will serve as a venue for an exchange of ideas among the various sectors of society, including the local government units, on how best to implement the environmental education law in the light of the growing need for public participation in addressing pressing environmental problems in the country.

โ€œInformation is power. Positive changes in our environment will only take place with an efficient and effective education campaign. This event will provide a credible vehicle for constructive devices for the direct expansion of the different sectors of our society as to how we should drive, and unite, to ensure that we will have a better Philippines โ€“ environment-wise,โ€ Atienza said.

Among the topics to be discussed during the two-day program are โ€œStatus of Implementation of the National and the ASEAN Environmental Education Action Plansโ€ and โ€œChallenges and Commitments to Implement RA 9512,โ€ with speakers from the Department of Education, the Commission on Higher Education, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, the Philippine Information Agency, the Department of Interior and Local Government, the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Council for Sustainable Development.
