Plans to turn Minalin as center of culture, heritage disclosed

MINALIN, Pampanga – Mayor Arturo Naguit bared the plan of his administration to turn the municipality into a center of culture and heritage preservation in the province.
In August 2011, the 400-year old Sta. Monica Church in this town was declared as National Cultural Treasure (NCT) by the National Museum. According to Naguit, this opened opportunities for them to transform their town into a tourist destination.
The mayor said he is planning to renovate all government establishments starting with the municipal grounds, with architectural design similar to old buildings to create an environment patterned with that of Vigan City in Ilocos.
β€œWe have a very rich culture and tradition here in Minalin in addition to the places that we can consider historical, we just need to enhance and develop it,” Naguit said.
Many students from Catholic schools and bloggers always visit Minalin especially the Sta. Monica Church, prompting Naguit to grab the chance to showcase the other pride of the municipality.
He said putting up floating restaurants in the river is included in the master plan of the cultural-eco- tourism project of Minalin to promote the fishing industry of their town.
β€œAfter visiting the historical destinations in our town, we have to make sure that there are available places for them to appreciate the Kapampangan foods and products,” said Naguit.
Further, Naguit stated their plan to create an office that will serve as the center of all activities related to tourism such as itineraries for visitors, tourist guide and promotion. Their target clients are the catholic schools in the country.
β€œAside from tourism, we want to create awareness on the preservation of heritage and culture, and we owe it to the future generation,” he said.
Through this cultural-eco-tourism plan of local government, they are optimistic that the fourth class status of the town will be elevated to a first class municipality. ●Jenna Lumbang
