2,000 folk assisted in Minalin health projects

MINALIN, Pampanga–Mayor Arturo “Katoy” Naguit urged his constituents to choose their leaders based on performance, “stressing that records speak for itself.”
Naguit, during the inauguration on Saturday of the Seniors’ Citizens building funded by Vice President Jejomar Binay, disclosed that his government gave medical assistance to some 2,000 people, more than 700 of whom had been given free cataract operations.
Naguit said former Mayor Edgar Flores “is now looking for people with cataract considering they never helped a single one during their nine-year rule.”
Naguit stressed that Gov. Lilia Pineda’s support had been vital in the implementation of various health care programs in the town.
Naguit said he had also supported the scholarships of “poor deserving students.” He added that he had regularly funded the college education of 107 students.
“To have limited funds is not an excuse not to send young people to school. Education should be given priority,” said Naguit.
The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) recently cited Naguit for his “child-friendly” administration. It was the first-time for Minalin to get the citation.
Naguit also worked for the declaration of the Sta. Monica Church as a National Cultural Treasure, the second to be declared among the old churches in Pampanga.
Senatorial bet Nancy Binay represented his father, Vice President Binay, in the event attended by Mayors Jerry Pelayo of Candaba, Peter Flores of Masantol and Leonora Wong of San Simon. The elder Binay gave P500,000 for the major rehabilitation of the building located beside the town hall. ● Joey N. Pavia
