Dengue cases in CL down by 80%
CITY OF SAN FERNANDOโAn 80 percent decrease of dengue cases in Central Luzon from January to February has been noted this year compared to the same period last year.
Department of Health Central Luzon Regional Epidemiologist Jessie Fantone said that 3,300 were reported cases in the region in the first two months of 2012. From January to February this year, the cases were down to 653 cases.
Due to the decrease, Central Luzon dropped to fourth place in the ranking of regions with high cases of dengue, from third spot last year.
โAnother good news is Region 3 ranks fourth on most dengue cases tallied for the whole country. Region IVA or Calabarzon places first, followed by the National Capital Region, and third, Region VI or the Western Visayas,โ she said.
About 232 cases came from Bulacan, followed by Nueva Ecija with 153; Tarlac, 100; Pampanga, 87; Bataan, 69; Aurora, 8; and Zambales, 4.
Of the said number, DOH has tallied one death each in Pampanga and Nueva Ecija provinces.
โAlthough the outcome of the joint programs of DOH and local government units along with the other private sectors is impressive, we still needed to work hard to prevent dengue,โ he said, however.
DOH suggested that in order to lessen the cases of dengue in the country, โwe must do preventive measurements.โ
