Bataan Peninsula State U pulls grand slam in press con
BALANGA CITY, Bataan, Jan 26 (PIA) — Tearful and sleepless nights crafting different publications finally paid off for the campus journalists of Bataan Peninsula State University (BPSU) after they snagged a three-peat crown in the recent 12th Regional Higher Education Press Conference.
The Guilds, the official student publication of BPSU-Main Campus, has reaped five major awards in the annual competition participated by over 200 campus journalists across Central Luzon held at Crown Royale Hotel in Balanga City.
Among these were the Best Broadsheet, Best Tabloid, Best Newsletter, Best Literary Folio and the individual highest pointer award which propelled The Guilds into three straight overall championships.
“Winning this for one year is already a feat. Making it three times in a row is historical and extraordinary. We are truly happy for this accomplishment. We have proven our worth in student journalism,” said BPSU President Dr. Delfin Magpantay.
Individual highest pointer Gil Cruz said that he felt teary after devoting five years of his life together with the staff writers, photographers and layout artists who had sacrificed a lot to produce various publications for the students.
“Even if it is hard, even if we get sick so many times, even if we spend nights not going home, I will miss [The Guilds] very much,” shared Cruz, who won 1st place Development Communication Writing (Filipino), 1st place Photojournalism (English), and 3rd place Editorial Writing (English), in his Facebook page.
The Guilds also bagged 2nd Best Magazine and 13 other individual awards.
Other campuses of BPSU took home awards. The Defender of Balanga Campus won 6th place, The Polytechnician of Orani Campus trailed at 7th, and Malasimbo of Dinalupihan Campus secured 9th place in the overall ranking.
Bulacan State University’s Pacesetter grabbed the 2nd place followed by The Industrialist of Pampanga’s Don Honorio Ventura Technological State University.
Themed “Responsible Campus Journalism in the New Media Technology,” this competition conducted by the Association of Tertiary School Paper Advisers-Region III aims to enrich the journalistic skills of the participants and select a roster of contenders who will represent the region to the Luzonwide Higher Education Press Conference.
