Mayor sees Rizal in young Kapampangan leaders

CITY OF SAN FERNANDOโ€“Sixty leaders of different youth sectors from this city, and municipalities of Mexico, Arayat, Sta. Ana and Bacolor attended the Magsilbi Tamu Youth (MTY) Pampanga leadership training held at the Heroes Hall Mini Theatre on January 5 โ€“ 6.
MTY Pampanga is a cluster of young Kapampangans who work in promoting and strengthening the role of the youth in good governance. Being representatives also of the different sectors of their communities, members and leaders of MTY Pampanga are responsible for strengthening the role of the youth sector in partnership with other sectors like community service, education, environment, health and social services.
Eugene Orejas, executive director of a non-government organization and a political analyst, was the guest speaker for the first day and tackled the root causes of โ€œpatronage politicsโ€, why it persists, and the different implications of existing electoral tradition and mentality.
The MTY Pampanga leadership training event was highlighted by workshops, wherein participants were grouped according to their municipalities and tasked to come up with relevant outputs and plans. Various questions regarding leadership were thrown to the young leaders, who responded with deep insights of various issues facing their communities.
Addressing the group, Mayor Oscar S. Rodriguez emphasized the power of the youth, reciting a message to the youth written by national hero Jose Rizal: โ€œWhere are the youth who will pour out so much blood in order to ward off so much crime, so much shame, so much abomination. Where are you youth?โ€
โ€œWe are still searching for those youth, but today, we have found that youth in you,โ€ Rodriguez told the MTY members.
MTY officers Jay-R Hipolito and Kelvin Vistan later conducted an orientation and open forum on leadership which covered issues such as qualities and perspectives of a good leader, good governance, and actions.
MTY Pampanga plans future replications of the leadership training that will be conducted in different municipalities in the province to increase awareness and involvement of the youth in nation building, the officers said. โ—
