SBMA Awards Top Freeport Workers

The Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) awarded recently the 10 freeport workers in a ceremony hailing the best of the 92,000-strong workforce as “Heroes of the Freeport for their role in making Subic a catalyst in the economic development of the country.”

SBMA Chairman Roberto Garcia named this year’s Ten Outstanding Freeport Workers of Subic Bay led by an employee who stopped a fire that saved company property and the life of his co-employee.

Jed Sprint Piño of Pacific Ocean Underwater Solutions Corporation was honored on Friday as the top Freeport employee.

Others in the circle of 10 were Engr. Gilbert Buhain of the Philippine Coastal Storage and Pipeline Corporation; Ryan Griva of Subic Enerzone Corporation; Charo Guerrero of Polarmarine Incorporated; Mark Anthony Magno of Subic Marine Exploratorium; Christine Manamtam of Wistron Infocomm Philippines Corporation; Dandy Millama of Wistron Infocomm Philippines Corporation; Maria Luisa Pulanco of Nicera Philippines Corporation; Daisy Tagnipes of Wistron Infocomm Philippines Corporation; and Virginia Umbina of Subic Water and Sewerage Corporation.

The ceremony was held at Ayala Harbor Point, highlighting the Freeport’s 20th anniversary celebration.

For his part, Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Undersecretary for Special Concerns and board of judges head Jose Mari Oquiñena addressed the winners.

“Because of the stories you have shared with us, you made us more proud to be Filipinos. Thank you for being a source of good news about the Filipino,” he said.

Oquiñena added: “What you have accomplished today will be part of your legacy to your families or future families that when your kids grow up and they will be asked ‘why are you excellent?’ they will answer ‘because my parents are excellent’. If I ask you know ‘why are you so excellent?’ for sure you would also answer because you came from great families. If each Filipino family would have in mind of producing great sons and daughters, then maybe we shall soon see the ideal Philippines we all wish for.” (Jonas Reyes, Manila Bulletin)
