Pampanga cites senior citizens
CITY of San Fernando, Pampanga — Gov. Lilia โNanayโ G. Pineda led the celebration of Provincial Elderly Month 2012 at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center in recognition of the senior citizensโ role as contributors to the provinceโs growth and progress.
โWe are here to celebrate the life of the Kapampangan elderlies and to repay for their efforts during their time. Pampanga would not be the progressive province that it is now without them,โ Pineda said.
At least 1,154 senior citizens from all over the province enjoyed the modest celebration prepared by the Capitol through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, led by Elizabeth Estiller-Baybayan.
According to Baybayan, some 17 elderlies — aged a hundred year-old and above — were even awarded with cash gifts in celebration of their longevity.
Meanwhile, the Provincial Health Office headed by Dr. Marcelo Jaochico also led the administration of anti-pneumonia and anti-flu vaccines for the senior citizens with assistance from the Department of Health.
Dr. Leonita Gorgolon, regional director of the Center for Health and Development III, and Elsie Bondoc, social insurance officer of PhilHealth, also joined the celebration.
Pineda also reminded the senior citizens that age should not be considered a hindrance in enjoying life.
