C. Luzon crime rate plunges by 40.88%
CITY OF SAN FEFRNANDO – Crime rate in Central Luzon has plunged by 40.88 percent, with Bulacan recording the highest crime rate, the regional police based at Camp Olivas here said.
“Records bear out 40.88 percent decrease in crime rate in Central Luzon from January to September this year compared to the same period last year,” Camp Olivas reported yesterday.
Regional police operations and plans division head Supt. Eden Ugale noted that ”total crimes in the first nine months of 2012 numbered to 17,461 which is a significant drop from the reported 29,535 crimes in 2011.”
Ugale added “9,304 of the crimes were index while the remaining 8,157 were non-index.”
Index crimes include theft, physical injuries, robbery, carnapping, rape, murder and homicide, while non-index crimes are less serious.
Ugale also said that 7,667 or 43.91 percent of the recorded crimes were considered “cleared,” referring to cases filed in court but whose suspects remain at large, while 5,307 or 30.39 percent were considered “solved” with the suspects arrested and brought to court.
Bulacan registered the highest number of crimes in Central Luzon during the period with 7,352 followed by Nueva Ecija (2,057); Pampanga (1,871); Angeles City (1,446); Tarlac (1,354); Zambales (1,071); Bataan (1,016); Olongapo City (846); and Aurora (448).
Ugale attributed the “improved and manageable crime situation in the region to the strict implementation of the various thrusts and programs of the regional police.”
He cited particularly “the intensified police visibility in the streets and the concerted efforts against motorcycle riding in tandem robbers and carnappers through the conduct of massive simultaneous checkpoint operations which resulted to the arrest of 55 persons and recovery of 84 assorted vehicles.”
Ugale also noted that the ”Wanted Ka, Huli Ka!” website, which elicit people participation, resulted in the arrest of 3,077 notorious individuals since its launch in 2011.
