Zambales officials evacuates residents, Botolan road cut again
BOTOLAN, Zambales: The government of Zambales ordered a full evacuation at low areas especially in the town of Botolan and residents long the coastline of Sta Cruz, Zambales.
In a SMS update by the Philippines Information Agency, it said that Deloso ordered the evacuation Friday after reports the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical & Astronomical Service Administration place the province of Zambales in storm signal 1.
The main highway connecting the Northern part of Zambales has been unpassable to all types of vehicles.
The Olongapo – Bugallon Road is the lone roadway that traverses the entire province. Closure of a portion means that parts of province is inaccessible to the more developed parts of the province, including the Subic Bay area.
The road according to the local DPWH was submerged in flood with strong current forcing them to close the main highway.
Although Typhoon Pepeng is not expected to cross the province of Zambales, non stop rain and strong winds force government officials to be in full 24 hour alert.
In Olongapo City, local rescuers, DSWD and local officials has also been in a 24 hour alert as part of their pre emptive measure.
Olongapo City Mayor James Gordon together with the handful of councilors and DSWD led a relief operation in Barangay Sta Rita.
โThis is our pre emptive measure, hindi na natin aantayin na ibigay pa sa kanila yung mga good in time of emergency, we have it now so we will give it now,โ Gordon told Subictimes.com.
Jean Eclarinal, Head of the local DSWD said they have been conducting relief operations since the city declared a state of calamity after 15 out of the 17 barangays were submerge in flood a month ago.
The relief goods already bagged contained 3 kilos of rice, chocolate powder, coffee, milk, sardines and noodles.
As of this reporting no floods due to typhoon Pepeng has been reported in the city. with reports from John Bayarong
