Science high school to have campus in Clark Freeport

Clark Freeport โ€” Officials of the Clark Development Corp. (CDC) and the Philippine Science High School (PSHS) have signed a memorandum of agreement (MoA) on the establishment of the schoolโ€™s Central Luzon campus in this Freeport.

CDC President Benigno N. Ricafort and Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Secretary Estrella F. Alabastro signed the MoA that calls for the establishment of a PSHS campus in the Clark Polytechnic here.

Ricafort said the PSHS campus is a “breakthrough” for the Clark Freeport because it will not only serve as a venue for investments but also as a host for a center of excellence.

The CDC president said that the presence of the PSHS in the Freeport “has great potential of encouraging the youth to aim high in terms of academic excellence.”

The PSHS campus, once established, will be the second educational facility in the Freeport since the Americans abandoned Clark in 1991. The first government public school here is the University of the Philippines-Clark campus.

Alabastro, meanwhile, said the government is looking forward to collaboration with the UP Clark administration in terms of the sharing of educational resources and faculty.

She said the country has a total of nine PSHS campuses per region. The government, she said, expects to have 11 campuses once the Clark and Cordillera campuses are established.

“We have six more [campuses] to go in our bid to have one campus in the countryโ€™s 17 regions,” Alabastro noted.

Ricafort noted that the establishment of a PSHS campus in Clark is an indication of Central Luzonโ€™s for the “great industrial revolution.”

“We are not only preparing our childrenโ€™s future through quality education but we are likewise preparing the manpower needs of the companies here and those in the periphery of the Freeport,” Ricafort said.
