Aquino denies negotiation on communist leader’s return
PRESIDENT Benigno Aquino III denied on Friday that a negotiation has been ongoing for the return of Jose Ma. Sison, the founder of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP), in the country.
Aquino, in an interview in Oriental Mindoro, said what has been ongoing is the negotiation on the peace process.
“There is no negotiation on his (Sison’s) return,” he said, adding that Sison would only go back in the country if there would be a clear discussion on the peace process.
Aquino urged the rebels to just bring the issue on a debate and not through using guns.
Recent reports claimed that the exiled communist leader returned to the country under the name Renato Malaya on January 20 on board an airplane that landed at the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport in Pampanga.
The military dismissed the report saying the “disinformation” was based only on circulating text messages.
The government has been trying to forge a final peace accord with the CPP and its armed-wing New People’s Army, which has been waging war for over four decades.
