MMDA to motorists: Avoid Edsa on Saturday

MANILA, Philippines – The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) today advised all motorists to avoid Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (Edsa) on Saturday and take alternate routes due to scheduled celebrations of the 26th Anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution.
The MMDA said that traffic jams are expected along the northbound lane of Edsa..
The MMDA said motorists make take a right turn on McKinley Road to C5 to destination; right at Kalayaan Avenue to C5 to destination; take Rockwell flyover, left turn to Estrella and utilize Estrella / Pantaleon Bridge which is now open to traffic; right at J.P. Rizal to C5 to destination; right at Pioneer Street to C5 to destination; right at Shaw Boulevard to C5 to destination; and right at J. Vargas Avenue to C5 to destination.
Along Ortigas Avenue the motorists taking left turn from Greenhills to EDSA must go straight along Ortigas Avenue to destination.
Right turning traffic from Meralco Avenue must go straight to Greenhills to destination.
From Edsa southbound lane: Right turn to Santolan, left turn to Ortigas Avenue, then right turn to EDSA to point of destination.
The agency also expect heavy traffic along Edsa, particularly within the vicinity of the People Power Monument / White Plains, due to the rehearsal, construction of stage, and actual celebration of the People Power Anniversary.
The 4th and 5th lane of the EDSA People Power Monument (northbound) were closed to traffic on Friday from 3 a.m. to 5 a.m. for the rehearsal, as well as tomorrow (Saturday) from 12:01 a.m. to 3 a.m. for the construction of the stage from Corinthians Gate to Gate 4 of Camp Aguinaldo.
Meanwhile on Saturday, White Plains Avenue westbound from Temple Drive to Edsa will be closed to traffic from 4 a.m. to 11 a.m.; from Edsa Ortigas flyover northbound and service road to Santolan northbound will totally be closed from 5 a.m. to 11 a.m.
From 12:01 p.m. to 3 p.m. the 4th and 5th lane of Edsa northbound from Corinthians gate to Aguinaldo Gate 4 will totally be closed on Saturday.
If possible, the entire stretch of EDSA Northbound will be opened to traffic by 3 p.m. (Saturday), the MMDA said.
MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino said additional traffic enforcers will be deployed along EDSA and the alternate routes.
He added that the agency was also coordinating with the organizers of the EDSA People Power festivities as well as the local government units affected by the alternate routes (Pasig, San Juan, Mandaluyong, Makati, Quezon City and Cainta) to ease the expected traffic congestion.
