Execs vow full support to anti-overloading law

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — As Anti-Overloading Law or Republic Act 8794 takes full effect all over the province on Sunday, executives and stakeholders have vowed to support and cooperate in its implementation.
The memorandum of agreement was signed by officials led by Vice Governor Joseller β€œYeng” Guiao and representatives from the Land Transportation Office, Department of Public Works and Highways, Philippine National Police and Pampanga Truck Owners Association (PTOA).
β€œOur position has always been to comply with the provisions of the anti-overloading law. The Provincial Government and other implementing agencies could be rest assured we will support and cooperate in its strict implementation since we will police our own ranks,” PTOA director Tony Patawaran told Sun.Star Pampanga.
The nearly 100-member PTOA, he added, would continue to pave the way in regulating loads of trucks, particularly with quarry hauls, as it has similarly supported the use of portable weighing scales in quarry sites and strategic areas.
Permanent weigh bridges
Fourth district Board Member Ricardo Yabut, meanwhile, disclosed that the Provincial Board (PB) is now conducting a survey of areas where permanent weigh bridges could be constructed.
β€œWith the implementation of the Anti-Overloading Law and use of portable weighing scales, the PB which fully supports the move, has started looking for areas where we could set up permanent weigh bridges. This will complement our efforts in stopping overloading and protecting our roads, bridges and other vital infrastructure,” Yabut said.
