Panel recommends renewal of contracts of some City Hall casual employees

HALF of the 144 casual employees who were in danger of losing their Cebu City Hall jobs have been advised to report for work.
Human Resource Development Office (HRDO) Chief Veronica Morelos said, though, that she has yet to receive the appointment of the casual employees. She based the estimate on the number of casual employees who reported to her after they were subjected to performance evaluation.
But Basak San Nicolas Barangay Captain George Rama, a member of the five-person panel that evaluated the 144 casual workers, said almost 85 percent were endorsed for renewal of their contracts.
He said even personnel who are known to be supporters of Bando Osmeña Pundok Kauswagan (BOPK) but were found to be “honest, efficient, diligent and organized” were among those to be rehired.
Rama, a cousin of City Mayor Michael Rama, said some BOPK supporters deserve to be rehired.
Approval

They also supported us in the past),” George said.
But he clarified that the recommendation of the panel still needs the approval of the mayor.
The Ramas were members of the BOPK for several years but last June, the mayor bolted the group.
As of 5 p.m. yesterday, Barangay Captain Rama said only about 20 casual employees were found to have failed the evaluation and cannot be rehired.
The panel has yet to finish the interviews of the casual employees under evaluation as of press time, but Rama said they will work overtime to get the job done.
He disclosed they will submit their recommendation to the mayor today so the casual employees will be given appointment papers.
Morelos said the HRDO needs the appointment papers so it can submit the list of City Hall employees to the Civil Service Commission.
Sun.Star learned that some of the workers whose contracts were not renewed have worked at City Hall for 15 to 20 years.
But in a memorandum last week, Mayor Rama said renewal of contracts of casual employees is a prerogative of the executive department.
