CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Mayor Asiong Macapagal has vowed to do his part in ridding the San Luis portion of the Arnedo Dike and Arayat to Apalit setback levee of informal settlers and encroachers.
Macapagal gave the assurance to Governor Lilia Pineda during the recent inter-agency meet, where the lady governor stressed the need to relocate the encroachers much that they contribute to massive flooding and silting, aside from the fact that their lives are endangered.
After Department of Public Works and Highways supervising engineer disclosed of the hundreds of encroachers in the area, Macapagal said he would immediately work on convincing the informal settlers to relocate.
โKonti lang naman ang encroachers sa San Luis particular sa Barangay Sta. Catalina. Pero kung makakatulong ito sa layunin ni Governor Pineda, sagot ko na ito at makakaasa siya ng aking buong suporta,โ Macapagal told Sun.Star Pampanga.
Governor Pineda has been calling for encroachers along the perilous banks of Arnedo Dike and the Arayat-Apalit setback levee to move to safer grounds due to the areaโs deteriorated conditions, aggravated with huge damages by Typhoons Pedring and Quiel.
She said recently that Capitolโs remaining P60-million calamity fund will be reserved for finding a suitable relocation area for affected residents, if the need arises.
DPWH Secretary Rogelio Singson, in Special Order 178, also created a task force to check on the encroachers and implement massive dredging and desilting operations.
