Lazatin backs village project

REPRESENTATIVE Carmelo Lazatin (1st district, Pampanga) vowed to allot P1.2 million for the โGulayan Sa Barangay Project,โ which started in Barangay Bical, Mabalacat town Thursday.
Lazatin graced the launching of the project in said village headed by Barangay Captain Rogelio Yumul, president of the Association of Barangay Councils.
Yumul said Lazatin will give the funds once the pilot project sponsored by East West Seeds Corporation (EWSC) becomes successful.
Lazatin said the funds from his Priority Development Assistance Fund will be used in the provinceโs first district — Mabalacat, Magalang and Angeles City โ for the vegetable project.
The EWSC, a private-owned firm, spent at least P30,000 for a green house at the Bical Elementary School.
Yumul said the EWSC also gave seedlings that were used in green house.
He added the firm had taught teachers, students, parents, and residents the proper planting of the seeds to produce healthy vegetables.
โI always support quality education. But the students will not learn well if they are not healthy or their stomachs are empty when learning,โ Lazatin said.
Lazatin launched on June 23 the โKabahagi Ako Sa Handog Silid Aralan, Tugon Sa Kaunlaran,โ a program on education aimed at constructing 444 public school classrooms in his district.
Lazatin thanked the Department of Agriculture (DA) for assisting the project that will benefit mostly poor students at public schools.
The two-term representative said he had been informed by Yumul that regional DA officials will teach new technology in producing high value crops. (Reynaldo G. Navales)
