Group scours for 2007 poll fraud witnesses-11Aug01

THE Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) is also in the process of searching for two witnesses in the purported electoral fraud operations in the 2007 midterm elections.
In an interview, PPCRV chairperson Henrietta de Villa noted that they have already presented as early as 2007 two members of the Board of Election Inspectors (BEIs) to the Commission on Elections (Comelec) but eventually went futile.
โ€œWe had two BEI members, who were willing to give their affidavits to the Comelec then, but they were given the run around. So, weโ€™ll try to locate them again,โ€ said de Villa.
โ€œWeโ€™ll try to look for our Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (Armm) witnesses, who were not given attention by the then Comelec,โ€ the former Philippine ambassador to Vatican added.
Aside from the two, de Villa added that there were more people who are aware of the cheating operations but were just afraid to come out and testify.
โ€œThere were a number of people who knew of the cheating but were not willing to testify then,โ€ de Villa recalled.
Last Thursday, National Movement for Free Elections (Namfrel) Lanao del Sur chair Hadji Abdullah Dalidig surfaced at the Comelec Main Office in Manila claiming extensive knowledge about alleged fraud operations in the 2004 elections favoring then President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
The Namfrel and the PPCRV have been perennial rivals in the bid to gain accreditation as the Comelecโ€˜s citizensโ€™ arm during every elections.
To recall, the Comelec and the Department of Justice (DOJ) last week decided to conduct a joint probe on the supposed election fraud operations during the 2004 and 2007 polls.(AMN/Sunnex)
