Fina says no drug positives at world aquatics meet -11Aug01

SHANGHAI β€” Swimming’s governing body says there have been no positive drug tests at the world championships.
More than 300 urine tests and nearly 40 blood tests, all focused on the top-performing athletes, were negative, according to Dr. Andrew Pipe, chairman of Fina’s doping control review board.
Pipe said Sunday night before the final session of swimming that no positive tests were anticipated. He says he’s confident that Fina will be applying state-of-the-art doping strategies in swimming, diving, water polo, synchronized swimming and open water swimming, and will continue to evolve its programs.
Fina is already adopting a biological passport program that would contain detailed accounts of athletes’ blood profiles, variations of which could indicate doping. (AP)
