Laus leads feeding program
BACOLOR — Third district Board Member Monina Laus on Monday led members of the Don Honorio Ventura College of Arts and Trades-Don Honorio Ventura Technological State University (DHVCAT-DHVTSU) Batch 1982 in a feeding program of undernourished children at Barangay Maliwalu here.
Laus, who is also batch president, led the feeding of 45 undernourished children from the school and neighboring communities.
The feeding program was attended by members of Batch ’82, third district Board Member Trina Dizon and Mayor Jomar Hizon.
The program featured the feeding of well-balanced meal that was prepared by Batch ’82.
According to Laus, well-nourished children can perform better in school and their academics if they are provided with the proper nutrition.
“Most of these children are underweight and frail and that affects how they grow up. These children need the proper nutrition to ensure that they grow well and have the proper body and mental development,” Laus said.
Laus, who chairs the provincial committee on health, said she will call the attention of local school officials in the province to identify undernourished students in their schools and to undertake proper intervention measures.
The lawmaker added that supplemental feeding projects entails de-worming and weighing prior to the actual feeding, monthly monitoring of each child’s progress and the involvement of parents whose children are enrolled in the program.
“It is also the community’s responsibility to take care of these children. Malnutrition is something that should be addressed holistically,” Laus said.
Laus added that their alumni group will also visit other schools in Bacolor town in the coming weeks.
Meanwhile, Mayor Hizon said he will send meat stuffs to the school for the continuation of the feeding program. He said the Municipal Government will support the health development of the children.
