Latin ambassadors, leaders express optimism on biz tie-ups

CLARK FREEPORT — Latin American ambassadors and business leaders over the weekend expressed optimism on the tie-ups with the business sectors here, opening doors of cooperation between the two countries.
Latin ambassadors and business leaders attended the Pampanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PamCham) joint business forum on Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) on July 22 here, in cooperation with the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) and the Philippines-USA Business Economic Council.
Chile Ambassador Roberto Mayorga said the Philippines has a bustling industry on business process outsourcing and has a strong nursing force that can cater to the needs of business sectors in other countries.
“The distance between the Philippines and the Latin nations is indeed great but the possibilities for ties between our economies are something that could not be ignored and still waits to be explored,” Morga said.
The event was also attended by Republic Ambassador Joaquin Daniel Otero, who introduced his country to members of the PamCham and the industries that are now in the rise in the said country.
Meanwhile, United States Commercial Counselor Patrick Wall, Deputy Country Manager John Polk of the Millennium Challenge Corporation, Industry Affairs Director Raymond Lacdao of the Business Processing Association of the Philippines and President Marjorie Lopingco of the Health and Wellness Association Quezon City have all expressed optimism that the event would enable the opening of doors for Latin American tie ups.
PamCham chairman Levy Laus, for his part, said the event is the start of possible tie-ups with Pampanga and the Latin American economies. He said the business sector in Pampanga and Central Luzon should be able to explore the possible industries in these countries and entertain the possibility of investments in Central Luzon.
Also, PamCham president Jim Jimenez said the event was able to impress upon the Latin American leaders that Pampanga is capable of addressing manpower needs for business process outsourcing and the manning of nursing-related jobs for the aging sector of Latin America.
“We hope to hold more events like these to open the doors for investment among the Latin countries and the Philippines,” Jimenez said.
