Mayor: ‘Something propelled Sara’

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — League of Cities of the Philippines (LCP) president and Mayor Oscar Rodriguez said some “conditions and circumstances may have propelled a decent mayor like Sara Duterte” for her actions.
Duterte recently assaulted court sheriff Abe Andres, who was bent on demolishing houses in a contested property in Barangay Soliman in Davao City despite her request for a two-hour deferment.
The Duterte had rushed to the barangay to mediate between police and angry residents and prevent bloodshed as their shanties, some 217, were being prepared for demolition.
She asked the team to stay the execution of the court order for two more hours, but Andres reportedly refused, prompting her to punch the sheriff on the face.
Rodriguez said, however, that Duterte is decent, low profile and was never impulsive.
“She is very decent and low profile. Therefore, kung nagawa man niya iyon, may mga circumstances or conditions na nag-propel ng ganoon sa isang disente at responsibleng public servant,” he said.
Rodriguez described Duterte as one of the best officers of the LCP.
“Si Sara ay isa sa mga pinakamahusay kong official. Hindi siya palakibo but she is a doer. She was our host during our last national executive board meeting. Ni minsan ay hindi ko siya nakitaan ng impulsiveness,” said the LCP executive.
He added that the LCP could not opine or make judgments on the case.
“Wala kami doon sa actual na situation which be given the necessary weight. Kasi hindi kami makakapag-comment base sa mga haka-haka lang or balita-balita lang,” Rodriguez said.
