ANGELES CITY — Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan vowed to implement programs aimed at uplifting the conditions of homeless and jobless Angeleรฑos.

Pamintuan made this pronouncement during a recent conference aimed at addressing several issues on poverty confronting members of urban poor associations in this city.

The urban poor conference, held at the Angeles City Library Function hall, was centered on the theme “Palakasin ang Ugnayan at Pagkakaisa ng Lokal na Pamahalaan at ng Maralitang Taga-Lungsod, Isulong ang Mabuting Pamamahala.”

Pamintuan and other city officials, including Amos Rivera, head of the Local Urban Poor Affairs and Housing Office (Lupaho) and Ferdinand Calma of the Angeles City Cooperative Development Office (ACCDO), tackled several issues.

Among the concerns raised were relative to land, livelihood, employment, education and entrepreneurship.

Pamintuan, upon hearing the issues and concerns of the urban poor representatives, immediately responded to the questions and even provided additional information on what the marginalized sector of the society could expect during his term.

“The strong linkage between your executive and legislative department is unique,” he said, adding elected officials in the City Government now work hand-in-hand on matters concerning the urban poor sector.

The mayor mentioned priority projects like the Angeles City Renal Care Unit, the first ever dialysis center in the country to be established by a local government unit (LGU) and the Colegio Ning Angeles, which will provide skill-based courses for students.

“We already have provided land titles for 3,000 families under our administration and we will continue to give more,” said Pamintuan.

The urban poor members already sought the help of the mayor regarding land disputes in areas such as Barangays Margot, Pulung Maragul, Pampang and Pulungbulo, among others.

He also assured that there will be enough supplies of medicines for patients with high blood pressure and diabetes.

Pamintuan assured urban poor associations that the City Government will study and monitor the issues pointed out in the conference and that another meeting will be set to discuss the developments.

The mayor admitted, however, that his administration cannot face the problems alone.

“We implore the help of urban poor to help us the battle against poverty,” he said.

Members of the urban poor associations in return vowed support the mayor and his projects.

“Let us dedicate ourselves to improving our current states and our community,” Pamintuan added.

There are numerous opportunities for investments between US$100,000 and $500,000. These opportunities are especially attractive for semi-retirement lifestyles. The best, easiest and safest way to go about with this kind of investments is to deal with an existing business โ€“ a locator as business in Clark is called โ€“ so the investor is spared of the hassle of dealing with red-tape and bureaucracy that is always present in third-world countries. The existing locator has already cleared the path so to speak and even if it means asking for small premium for a partnership, it is very much worth the while of a new investor to take this route. Business opportunities depend largely on the skills, interests and experiences of the investors but there is a strong demand for more establishments in these areas: entertainment, shops, office space, construction and engineering services, restaurants and bars, transportation and travel assistance.
