AS THEY say, art — like love — is universal. Banking on this, the Art Association of the Philippines (AAP), in partnership with the Provincial Employment and Services Office and the Provincial Government of Pampanga, conducted the first-ever art workshop for Aetas of Barangay Nabuclod here over the weekend.
The event could not have become even more significant as it is an integral part of the celebration of the 20th year anniversary of the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo on June 15.
It was a challenge, much more a quest, for Kapampangan artists to discuss art concepts in relation to the culture and tradition of the Aetas.
Dubbed as “KUL ART”, the task was to level the instruction to enable Aetas to express their art through modern mediums. The participants, Aetas of different ages, learned the basics of drawing, sketching and even installation art.
The participants were given competent instruction by vice president for Internal Affairs Ral Arrogante, Don Reich De Dios, Rem Prin, Rey Gatmaitan, Jojoy Zabala, Edu Perreras, Eliseo Perreras, Eduardo Perreras, Dennis Trevalles, Remedios Prin, Jesus Cayanan, Angel Arceo and Poy Acervo with the class held at the newly constructed tourist view deck by the provincial government overlooking the Nabuclod highlands.
It was, ingeniously, for inspiration as well as to encourage Aetas to bring out their creative juices in an atmosphere of a vibrant environment. Other activities in the event included on-the-spot painting, stone carving and art installations.
Artist Don De Dios said the event was made possible through the support of Gov. Lilia Pineda. The Aetas were also given materials to practice what they have learned from the workshop.
βWe are very happy with the result. The instruction was very competent and the students were all very eager to learn,β Don De Dios said.
The AAP plans to hold similar seminars and workshops in the province through the help of Gov. Pineda.
