Rid Nabuclod of informal settlers, mayor urged

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Provincial Board (PB) Member Nestor Tolentino, in a resolution, appealed to Floridablanca Mayor Eddie Guerrero to rid the Nabuclod Resettlement site of illegal settlers.
Tolentino, who chairs the board’s environment committee, said the Nabuclod Resettlement Area is part of the ancestral domain for upland cultural minorities and indigenous peoples (IPs) like the Aetas.

Nabuclod is a prime area for the IPs, which the Provincial Government has been trying to develop for environment and livelihood reasons.
Tolentino said some “opportunists” from other places who are not eligible for resettlement have been constructing dwelling units there. He stressed that the practice is illegal and should not be tolerated.
“It might be a result of inter-cultural marriages but then again it is not right. It is an ancestral domain and it must remain that way. If it is not averted, all the programs of Capitol and our Congresswoman Arroyo for Nabuclod will prove futile,” he said.
“That is why we enjoin the mayor and concerned punong barangays to help us rid the area of illegal settlers and opportunists,” he added.
Tolentino said that a copy of the approved resolution has been sent to Guerrero as the PB awaits swift action.
