CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Governor Lilia Pineda Sunday called on Kapampangans to use compassion and hand work as weapons in fighting poverty in a bid to attain real independence.
Pineda made this call during the province’s celebration of the country’s 113th Independence Day at the Capitol grounds.

Pineda, in her speech, said the real challenge that Filipinos, especially Kapampangans, face today is how to make use of democratic independence to uplift one’s economic standing.
“Love of country also translates to love of our fellowmen. This means that our lives are not just our own but should be shared to others in the community,” Pineda said.
She added that though the country is indeed independent, Filipinos have yet to be free economically and intellectually.
Pineda urged Kapampangans to take the lessons of freedom to heart and work for unity in their homes, community and government.
“Honest labor coupled with compassion for others are the first steps in fighting poverty,” she said.
During the celebration, Pineda led the traditional raising of the flag with the musical accompaniment of the Capitol Brass Band and the Capitol Choir. Local performer Rose Calma also roused patriotic sentiments with her performance of traditional Independence Day songs. The Sinukwan Kapampangan Dancers also performed an interpretative number on the Philippines’ pursuit for freedom during the Spanish regime.
Kapampangan poetry was also rendered by local poets Adora Gigante and Jaspe Dula. Board members Fritzie David Dizon, Trina Dizon, Monina Laus, Teresito Lingad, Crisostomo Garbo, Ricardo Yabut, Tracicio Halili and Nestor Tolentino also joined Pineda in the ceremonial release of three white doves representing Philippine Independence.
Pineda later visited patients at the Diosdado Macapagal Memorial District Hospital in Guagua town along with the board members.
Meanwhile, the Police Regional Office in Central Luzon under the leadership of Regional Police Chief Edgardo Ladao joined in the commemoration of the 113th Anniversary of the Philippine Independence in a simple flag raising ceremony and releasing of balloons at the PRO3 parade grounds.
All Philippine National Police (PNP) uniformed and non-uniformed personnel attended said activity, which has for its theme: “Kalayaan, Paninindigan ng Bayan”.
Ladao directed all provincial and city police offices as well as the different city and municipal police stations to hold similar activities simultaneously.
Part of the activity was the reading of PNP chief Raul Bacalzo’s message where he gave emphasis on the continuous efforts of every PNP personnel to attain the country’s true freedom through the implementation of the PNP Integrated Transformation Program.
He further remarked that our ancestors have sacrificed their lives for the sovereignty of our country; the PNP in return renders utmost service to zeal its independence.
Flag raising ceremonies were also held at SM City Pampanga and SM City Clark as well as in selected municipalities in the province.
