Pangilinan, who was born in Sto. Tomas town, was the guest of honor during the 113th celebration of the country’s Independence Day at the Pamintuan mansion on Sunday.
“Based on reports, this is the only city that has a cultural presentation after the flag raising rites,” Pangilinan said.
Pangilinan said other cities and towns across the country should try to celebrate the Filipinos’ freedom day the same way AngeleΓ±os do.
Meanwhile, Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan said ordinary Filipinos should be recognized like the men that joined the revolution against the Spaniards in 1896.
“Sa ika-isangdaan at labintatlong taong anibersaryo ng Kasarinlang ng Republika ng Pilipinas, magpugay tayo sa ordinaryong mamamayang Pilipino! Sumaludo tayo sa tunay na bayani ng bayan!” Pamintuan said.
After the flag raising rites at the Pamintuan Mansion, more than a thousand people witnessed the re-enactment of the celebration of the 1st anniversary of Philippine Independence.
Later, the crowd also witnessed performances from the Sinukwan Performing Arts, as directed by Peter De Vera, who is also the director of the entire Independence Day program.
The Pamintuan Mansion in Angeles City was the seat of government at the outset of the Philippine-American War; and venue of the first and only public celebration of Philippine Independence on June 12, 1899.
This city is among other cities and towns that joined the simultaneous flag-raising ceremony at 7 a.m. Other venues were Rizal Park in Manila; Aguinaldo Shrine in Kawit, Cavite; Barasoain Church in Malolos; Mausoleo de los Veteranos dela Revolucion in Manila North Cemetery; Gat Andres Bonifacio Monument in Caloocan City; and Pinaglabanan Memorial Shrine in San Juan City.
