Mayors’ league to discuss daycare workers allowances

ANGELES CITY — The Pampanga Mayors’ League (PML) is set to discuss the possibility of coming up with a streamlined system for providing allowances to the province’s 616 daycare workers.
PML president Jerry Pelayo said the mayors are set to discuss the move in another meeting in response to Governor Lilia Pineda’s call to make a streamlined system of providing allowances and other compensation for daycare workers who depend on municipalities for their stipends.

“The call is a good move on the part of the governor. In a way, this is meant to make the allowances of daycare workers more responsive to their economic conditions,” Pelayo said.
It could be remembered that Pineda called the attention of the PML on Wednesday’s daycare assembly at SM City Clark on the differences in the salaries of daycare workers.
Some daycare workers receive at least P500 to P2,000 from their respective municipalities every month as allowance. However, the allowance falls short of the needs of the daycare workers in meeting with their expenses.
Governor Pineda, in a follow up interview Thursday, hopes the mayors would see to the creation of a system as soon as possible.
She said consideration should also be given on the current salaries of daycare workers who are receiving more than P2,000.
“Dapat hindi naman bumaba yung mga nakakatanggap na ng malaki, pero dapat para-pareho para masaya ang ating mga daycare workers at magampanan nila ang kanilang mga tungkulin ng maayos,” Pineda said.
Pineda said the system will give peace of mind and security to the daycare workers who tend to the 27,000 daycare pupils in Pampanga.
The PML is set to meet anytime in the coming days, Pelayo said.
