GOCC measure only needs Aquino’s signature

MANILA — The House of Representatives has ratified on Tuesday a measure which will impose stricter regulation on government-owned and controlled corporations (GOCCs).
The bill will be sent to Malacaňang for President Benigno Aquino III’s signature after the Senate also ratified the same measure last week.
The GOCC Governance Act of 2011 provides the creation of a Governance Commission for GOCCs (GCG) which shall oversee GOCCs and government financial institutions (GFI). The GCG shall also have the authority to set the allowances and bonuses given to GOCC executives.
Members of the House opposition bloc earlier vowed that the GOCC bill, once signed by the President and enacted into law, will be questioned at the Supreme Court (SC).
