Songwriter arrested in Pampanga

MABALACAT — A veteran songwriter who wrote “Biyaheng Langit”, “Bilog Ang Buwan”, “Magulang” and other popular hits was arrested recently on charges of attempted homicide, reports said.
Sigfred Marcelino Tiglao Ranada, popularly known as Ysagani Ybarra, 60, is now detained at the Mabalacat Police Station after a certain Jimmy Mede Flores, 53, charged the former with frustrated murder.
The Pampanga Provincial Prosecutor’s Office, however, downgraded the charge to attempted homicide after learning that Flores sustained only minor injuries.
In his affidavit, Flores claimed that Ranada and two other men mauled him using a shovel and a stick inside Ranadaโ€™s property at Sitio Turbina (Bana) in Barangay Dolores here.
The complainant also claimed that he heard Ranada shouting, “Sige paluin nyo yan” (hit him) and “Ibabaon kita sa ilog” (I will bury you in the river) while being beaten by two men who he claimed were Badjaos residing at the suspectโ€™s property.
But Ranada denied Flores’s accusations, saying the complainant was about to hit him with a liquor bottle when the former’s friend hit Flores’s hand using a shovel.
He said his words were taken out of context. “I did not say ‘Ibabaon kita sa ilog’ (I will bury you in the river). I said ‘Kapag hindi ka pa umalis dito talagang ibabaon kita ng buhay sa ilog’ (If you will not go away, I will bury you alive in the river),โ€ he said.
He also denied saying, “Sige paluin nyo yan”. According to him, he said, “Paluin yan” (hit him), referring to the bottle of liquor the victim was about to bash on his head.
Ranada said he and his Badjao guests were in a story conference for a documentary film about the tribesmen when Flores suddenly appeared and harassed them.
He said he recently evicted Flores from their property after the latter had a squabble with other informal settlers in the area.
Ranada informed Sun.Star Pampanga Monday that Flores already executed an affidavit of desistance.
Flores allegedly admitted making false accounts against the songwriter.
Ranada on Monday said he will file charges against individuals who pushed Flores in fabricating false charges against him.
He pointed to some leaders in Barangay Tabun as the ones who instigated Flores to file charges against him. (Sun.Star Pampanga/Sunnex)
