‘Sweetheart’ program serves hundreds anew

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The Sweetheart Program of third district Representative Aurelio Gonzales has served hundreds of indigents here Thursday.
The program, which focuses on the treatment of diabetes and cardiovascular diseases,
was first launched in February. It provides free blood, urinalysis and ECG screenings, among others.
The program is open to indigents who would like to look into their cardiovascular conditions.
Hundreds of indigents from the various towns of the district availed of the free tests facilitated by famed cardiologist Dr. Lorino Ramos of the University of Santo Tomas.
Virginia Lim, 67, said the program was able to give her a general view of her cardiovascular health. She has managed to save money from the usual expensive tests.
Lim said the program helps indigents like her in preventing other possible lifestyle diseases and be aware of the need to take care of their health.
“I am very thankful for this program of Congressman Gonzales. This is a big help to people like us who could not even afford such kinds of tests,” Lim said.
Aside from the tests, the program also dispenses the needed medicines to patients who have on-going treatments.
The program is also focused on the preventive approach. The staff of the program gives free consultation on how to prevent diseases and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
At present, Gonzales — who has been instrumental in the funding the hospitalization and medical needs of hundreds of patients in different public and private hospitals here — had been funding an on-going dialysis program for various patients all over the province.
