City College to rise at Heroes Park
May 20, 2011
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Officials of the City Government and the Department of Education (DepEd) gathered Wednesday morning for the groundbreaking and capsule-laying rites of the soon-to-rise City College at Heroes Park.
Mayor Oscar Rodriguez said the City Government decided to house the City College in the 1.7-hectare Heroes Park after attempts to find a suitable campus for the home of some 750 scholars failed.
A P5-million building for the DepEd Division of City Schools will also be constructed at the same area.
He recalled the legal problems the city encountered with the former Philippine Rabbit Bus Lines Terminal in Barangay Del Pilar, the Orchids Farm Resort in San Juan and another area in Sindalan where negotiations did not pull through favorably.
The new P28-million City College building and the DepEd Division edifice will sprawl on about 1,000 square meters of land at the back of Heroes Hall.
Construction time is pegged at six months from groundbreaking day.
“This City College building will be institutionalized since education is our top priority. Here at Heroes Park, facilities are within reach like the amphitheater, mini convention center and soon, a covered court,” Rodriguez said.
Rodriguez also said the City Government is fast-tracking a four-hectare property along Jose Abad Santos Avenue — donated by the Lazatin and Panlilio families — where half of it will house a full-amenity sports complex.
John Oliver Dizon of the City College Supreme Student Council and Engr. Nelson Lingat of the faculty and employees association both thanked the City Government for the new home of the City College.
