Task force formed to go after village exec killers

ANGELES CITY — The city police recently created a task force that will handle the double-slay case involving a village official in Barangay Amsic here.
Senior Superintendent Rodolfo Recomono, city police director, said Task Force Canda is tasked to resolve the killing of Amsic councilman Jovito Canda and his friend Rene Gutierrez.
Canda and Gutierrez died, while Rodrigo Cayanan was seriously wounded when two gunmen assaulted them around 8 p.m. of May 7.
Recomono said they have coordinated with the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in Pampanga and other units of the Philippine National Police for the speedy resolution of the case.
The police official added that Canda was active in law enforcement and has a passion in going after drug pushers and wanted persons.
This, according to Recomono, might have something to do with the slaying.
A lone witness, who was not identified, earlier told police investigators that the victims were in a drinking spree when their assailants suddenly appeared and shot the victims.
The witness failed to identify the suspects because they were wearing masks.
Cayanan, the third victim, is now recuperating from the gunshot wounds he sustained during the incident, Recomono said.
Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan said he instructed Recomono to conduct follow-up operations to identify and arrest the gunmen.
