Labor agency, local government assist entrepreneurs

ANGELES CITY — Scores of entrepreneurs who finished a business course under Manpower Skills and Livelihood Center of the Public Employment Service Office (Peso) here received assistance from the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) Region III and the City Government.
The funding for some 60 new entrepreneurs is part of Dole’s “Capacity Building Program and Livelihood Enhancement of Ambulant Vendorsโ and the “Pangkabuhayan Starter Kit Program.”
Maria Rima Hernandez, officer-in-charge of Dole-Pampanga office, handed a check amounting to P600,000 to Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan and Peso Manager Adelina Deocales.
The amount will be used in acquiring hairdresser kits for some 30 beneficiaries, five manicurist kits, 10 electronic kits, and 10 dressmaker kits under Doleโs Pangkabuhayan Starter Kits Program.
Another 30 beneficiaries will receive a Dole Nego-Karts Package that will sell fishballs, noodles, and other street commodities.
Pamintuan expressed his appreciation to Dole for choosing his constituents as beneficiaries of the livelihood project.
The mayor said he fully supports this cause, providing skills and livelihood programs for the citizens, which is part of his โcontractโ with Angeleรฑos.
โWe have selected indigent members of the community to become beneficiaries of the program. Each recipient underwent a background study and interview to determine their capability in handling such business,โ Pamintuan said.
According to the mayor, the City Government has contributed P150,000 as counterpart assistance for the project.
Deocales said the Nego-Karts project aims to assist mobile vendors and informal traders augment their income.
โThe project will assist ambulant vendors in making their existing livelihood grow into a profitable and sustainable business and consequently increase the income of low earners,โ Deocales said.
โOther assistance being offered under the Nego-Karts project include the entrepreneurship, production skills training, assistance in securing business permits and social protection coverage and benefits such as Social Security System and PhilHealth,โ the Peso manager added.
Deocales added that proper business management and food safety check-ups within the three-year execution of the program will be implemented with the help of the City Accounting Office and City Health Office to secure that all legal and sanitary protocols are followed.
