Compost is the key to great organic gardening and no matter what part of your home and garden efforts, youโre going to find it is the key to successful and healthy gardens.

First Thing
To start you off โ the single most interesting thing Iโve found about applying this material came from a commercial vegetable-production book from the 1800โs. In it, the author described how they applied 2 to 4 pounds of composted material per square foot of their gardens every year to maintain their fantastic yields and make a profit. Contrast that with the attitude many modern gardeners have of treating it as if it were gold and spreading it as thinly as possible. The thicker the better folks.
And thatโs the first lesson; you canโt apply too much to modern garden soil.
