May 11, 2011
CLARK FREEPORT โ The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG)-Central Luzon conducted a summit on May 12 targeting local government units (LGUs) in the region at the Fontana Leisure Parks.
The summit is part of the Tapatan Roadshow on Full Disclosure Policy titled โTake P.A.R.T. (Participation, Accountability, Responsiveness, Transparency) Governance.โ
DILG Zambales provincial director Flordeliza Trinidad said the summit is in accordance with the current orders of President Benigno Aquino III for a transparent government.
She added that the road show aims to increase the level of awareness, participation and compliance of local officials to the different directives of the agency and encourage participation of stakeholders in promoting good local governance.
It also aims to minimize or completely rid out graft and corruption, she said.
Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo discussed the DILGโs program thrusts, particularly Full Disclosure Policy among Central Luzonโs governors, city and municipal mayors, LnB presidents, presidents of provincial leagues of accountants, treasurers, budget officers, non-government organizations, the academe and members of the press.
She added this is the first in a series of road shows nationwide the department will undertake to push for transparency and accountability in the fight against corruption.
Also, part of the program was the awarding of winners on the Seal of Good Housekeeping (SGH) for local governments, which initially targeted 4th to 6th class municipalities and cities.
In the SGH, areas for evaluation were local government unitsโ sound fiscal management, transparency and accountability, valuing performance management and general impressions on the LGU. (Charlene Cayabyab/With Anthony Bayarong)
