Severed cable cuts Globe’s phone, web service in Visa
May 10, 2011
VISAYAS and Mindanao subscribers of the Philippines’ second-largest telecommunications company Globe suffered service interruptions on Monday due to a cut fiber optic cable.
The cause has yet to be known as Globe users in Davao, Cebu, and Agusan provinces experienced difficulty in sending text messages, making calls, or accessing the Internet.
βGlobe assures its subscribers that service restoration is ongoing. Subscribers will be informed as soon as service is back to normal,β Yoly Crisanto, Globe corporate communications head, said in an advisory sent to Sun.Star.
Crisanto also refused to blame the latest glitch on tropical storm Bebeng, which barreled towards southern and northern Luzon over the weekend.
βThe company is still investigating the incident. We canβt speculate,β she told Sun.Star.
Globe currently has over 26 million subscribers as net income dropped 22.4 percent to P9.75 billion in 2010 from P12.57 billion in 2009.
Shares at the Ayala-led firm closed 10 percent lower at P850 on Monday from P860 last Friday.
