Solid waste management awareness growing
April 25, 2011
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO β The awareness on solid waste management and environmental protection is growing as it began reaching the grassroots level, an official of the provincial environment agency said.
The Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (Penro) conducted recently a four-day consultative dialogue with villagers and officials of San Luis, Candaba and other fourth district towns.
βDuring the dialogue, we gathered feedback that people now, especially those residing near the Pampanga River, are voluntarily segregating waste and have started putting up signs to stop indiscriminate throwing of garbage in waterways.β Penro officer Art Punzalan said.
Punzalan said that with these feedbacks, the information and education campaign of the Capitol are gaining grounds.
βThese are good signs that awareness is rising and environmental concern is growing, making Earth Day an everyday affair,β he shared.
Disaster risk reduction and preventive programs were also tackled during the dialogue.
