Awarding program for bizmen launched
April 18, 2011
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO β The Department of Trade and Industry in Central Luzon has launched a program that seeks to honor entrepreneurs across the region that have shown remarkable achievements.
The Small-Medium Entrepreneur (SME) Star Program was launched at the SM City Pampanga on Thursday. The program is also billed as the βOscars of the Micro, Small and Medium enterprise (MSME) sector.β
Wilfred Carbonel, information officer of the regional DTI, said the program seeks to recognize entrepreneurs that have shown remarkable achievements in growing their businesses to become globally competitive enterprises.
The SME Star Program confers three honors: Rising Star, Star Elite and Star Presidential.
The Rising Star award is a provincial-level award that will be given to enterprises that are compliant with government business regulations and have successfully entered the domestic market.
Respective provincial micro, small and medium enterprise development (MSMED) councils will screen and select the winners from the nominees submitted by its members, private individuals, business chambers and non-governmental organizations.
Each provincial MSMED council will be naming three winners – one each for micro, small and medium enterprise categories by the end of April.
Meanwhile, the Star Elite award is a regional-level citation that will be handed to enterprises that have expanded or sustained domestic market presence and are ready to enter the export sector.
The regional MSME teams will be in charge in determining the winners from the nominees submitted by provincial MSMED councils.
Carbonel said the provincial Rising Star winners are not automatically nominated for the Star Elite as some of them might have failed to meet the prescribed standards of the prize.
The Central Luzon MSME team will be conferring the Star Elite award to three enterprises- one each for micro, small and medium enterprise categories by the second week of May.
The Star Presidential, on the other hand, is a national-level recognition that will be bestowed to one micro, small or medium enterprise that has successfully penetrated both the domestic and overseas market and continues to expand its market share.
Sole recipient will be selected by a board of judges from among the regional Star Elite awardees.
President Benigno Aquino III shall personally bestow the recognition to the Star Presidential honoree during the SME summit in July.
