Finding time for yourself can be difficult, particularly if you live and work in a big city. Here are some ways that you can generate some ‘you’ time
When you live and work in the city your life can seem to be a continuous cycle of travel-work-travel-sleep. You can get so caught up in the daily grind that you completely forget that itโs important to take a little โmeโ time to recharge the batteries. In fact itโs essential. But with so much to do and so little time how do you actually find the time? And, if you do manage to fit in a few hours here and there, what on earth should you do with it? Here are some ideas.
Cooking can be a great way to unwind and relax. You can completely cut yourself off from the rest of the world and focus completely on the task in hand โ with a glass of (insert beverage of choice here) in hand too of course! Cooking for yourself also has the added bonus of you getting a nutritious home-cooked meal rather than a microwave dinner.
A bath can be one of the best ways to relax. Close the curtains, light some candles, throw some essential oils in the tub, hop in and close your eyes. Bliss! Get yourself a bath cushion for your neck too. Then, when youโre done hop out of the bath into a fluffy robe and slippers and you should feel like all the worries of the day have disappeared down the plug hole along with the bath water.
Yoga is, of course, the best way to switch off from the pressures of everyday life and relax. Yoga engages both your body and your mind. A lot of stress is carried in the muscles and joints and takes its toll on your vital organs too. Yoga works to gradually stretch your muscles which releases tension throughout the body. Yoga also helps you to allow your mind to โrestโ, by focussing it simply on the present moment and not allowing it to be overrun by other thoughts.
Just plain old walking can work wonders. Your daily trek to and from the tube or bus can give you valuable time to clear your mind and ease tension. You could also add extra โvalueโ by practicing some walking meditation or breathing exercises; why not stretch your mind while youโre stretching your legs?
Taking a power nap can rejuvenate you no end. You have to time it right though because if you fall into a deep slumber you feel terrible when you wake up! Just twenty minutes snoozing will re-energise you if youโre feeling fatigued and put the zing back in your step โ so set the alarm to make sure you donโt sleep in!
