27 Minaleño couples exchange vows

April 11, 2011

MINALIN – Twenty-seven couples in this town said “I do” in a mass wedding held last Friday at the historic Sta. Monica church here.

The “Kasalan Bayan” was sponsored by Mayor Arturo “Katoy” Naguit, who recently celebrated his birthday.

The affair serves as his gift to young and not-so-young couples who have never experienced a Catholic church wedding.

Naguit cited the importance of a Catholic wedding, saying that even though all the couples have already undergone civil wedding, they should still have a “religious” wedding administered by a priest or pastor.

He said the “Kasalan Bayan” will be held annually during his birthday.

Instead of holding a party, he said he would rather sponsor a mass wedding.

The mayor added that the venue, food and other materials needed by the 27 couples were shouldered by the local government and organized by the mayor’s office and municipal department heads in cooperation with the Sanggunian Bayan, headed by Vice Mayor Edgar Yambao.

The couples, whose ages range from 18 to 48, said they are very grateful to the mayor for his unselfish act in giving joy to them and their families.

For his part, Yambao commended the efforts of Naguit, saying they are working together to assure that the plans and programs of the local government unit will be realized for the benefit of their constituents.

The wedding was officiated by Rev. Fr. Gregorio Vega of the Sta. Monica parish Church and Rev. Fr. Ariel Limjoco of the Sto. Domingo Parish Church. (Chris Navarro)
