Sweetest mango highlighted in Zambales Mango festival

April 7, 2011

IBA, Zambales — The much-anticipated Zambales Mango Festival, which highlights the province’s world-class product, kicks off at the provincial capitol grounds Thursday.
The yearly festival, which will culminate on April 11, highlights the product the province is known for — mango.
The province was recognized in 1995 by the Guinness Book of World Records for having the sweetest mangoes in the world.
Senator Francis Pangilinan, chairman of the Senate committee on agriculture and food, will grace the occasion along with Trade Regional Director Blesila Lantayona, Tourism Regional Director Ronaldo Tiotuico, Public Works Director Alfredo Tolentino, and Police Chief Superintendent Allan Purisima.
Among the activities during the four-day celebration are a photo contest and art exhibits, ultimate dance craze and the annual street parade and street dancing competition.
New program add-ons are the Zamba Boxing competition, Search for Talentadong Empleyado (Talented Employees) 2011, Huli Mo Biik Mo!, Agri-Karera ng Kalabaw (Agri-Carabao race) and a dog show, which highlights the event’s second day.
Regular activities are a mango forum and “Pinaka” LGU booth competition.
Also in line are mango carving and mango eating contests and the Pinaka competition will be held on the third day, along with the battle of the bands and the judging of the photo contest.
There will also be a Song Writing Competition and a Ginoo at Binibining Zambales (Mr. and Ms. Zambales) 2011 Grand Pageant Night, which will be held on the final day along with the awarding ceremony of the photo contest.
The annual festival is a joint program of the Zambales Mango Development Council and the Provincial Government to boost the province’s tourism and mango industry. (Anthony Bayarong)
