City to put up first tourism database
April 6, 2011
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — This city’s tourism department is all set to put up the first database system in Pampanga that can help the City Government identify needed interventions to further boost local tourism.
Ching Pangilinan, senior tourism officer, said the local database will include a list of hotels and resorts across the city.
“This database will help us get a more comprehensive picture of the tourism industry in the city. We need this database so the local government would know the necessary interventions especially on the local hotel and resort industry,” Pangilinan said.
Efforts in putting up the database started with a two-day training-workshop that started on Monday to local hotel and resort managers and staffs.
Resource speakers to the training-workshop were Milagros Say and Ramil Basuel, both officials from the Department of Tourism (DOT)-Office of Tourism Planning, Research and Information Management.
The whole workshop has defined basic tourism concepts and gathered and reported tourism statistics from local participants.
“This database can generate data that will help see if our hotels and resorts are performing well in terms of visitor arrivals and occupancy rates,” Pangilinan said.
The tourism database is expected to be available within the month.
The City Government already has listings of tourism establishments that they update every year in coordination with the city business licensing office.
